This interactive workshop wi森車ll introduce the use 你村of non-judgemental language in exchang技在es between colleagues, where both co廠為lleagues focus on the develop爸讀ment of the ideas and pl開熱ans of only one of them. 中唱Rather than exchange ideas in a pair, o信關ne partner tries to carry his/her 下見own ideas forward, while the ot山子her partner encourages him/h道公er by demonstrating acceptance購劇 and understanding. This produces an un學船usual and potentially powerful dynami議知c. Participants craft their own 朋風next best step forward by 務微searching inside themselves. Outco西河mes can include individual pr我場ofessional development and an inc女下rease of collegiality a樹我mong those people workin什鐵g together. 講座内容:Workshop 2: In search of the 看服hybrid

The learning of langua醫風ge is an ability common to all hum西來anity, but teaching is an activit市跳y that is rooted in a va坐爸riety of contexts. I suggest that w公紙hat we, as teachers, are村離 looking for are ways of teaching that區風 respect and take advan靜歌tage of our human commonalities說訊 and our contextual diffe也湖rences. That is to say, we ne街信ed to develop hybrid a刀見pproaches to our work. In歌白 this workshop, we shall e老南xplore how we can well us村關e the international literatur就道e of our field in th技得is endeavour. We shall also take a cri話什tical look at what we mean by such ter場男ms as theory and practice and the relationship betwe飛技en them. We will take a case-study ap身船proach to the topic, b藍快ased on the following article:

·  Article 2: Zhang, X-Q &紅子; Head, K. 2009. Deal機外ing with learner reticen你對ce in the speaking class. 廠服ELT Journal 64/1: 唱信1-9.

In order to take part in this wo站弟rkshop (Workshop 2), yo外黃u need to have read thi去姐s article. As you read, ask yourself  or even better, discuss wi好還th others at least the following two que開子stions:

· What can I lea下學rn from this article, m好黑ethodologically, as a t商自eacher?

· What can I learn 姐腦from this article about how to黑金 use the internation物嗎al literature of our field?

講座内容:Workshop (1.5-2 hours)

 

Exploring your classroom through 門玩action research

This session is designed for te風他achers who are interest業開ed in knowing more about action rese你那arch and how to do it in th廠也eir classrooms. It will刀作 be interactive and partici哥森patory and will take you thro他友ugh some steps to begin the a的朋ction research proces街紅s. We will be looking first 影數at the meaning of action這們 research, what it is about and wh費高y it can be appealing t黑女o teachers. We will then loo懂票k at some processes 山鐘for doing action research and you wil快能l get an opportunity to share ideas a她舞bout issues, puzzles or c資草hallenges in your classroom 月從that you would like to explore furthe雨南r.  We will then look at some way森視s that you can begin to銀刀 focus your ideas and to learn m內月ore about your students,笑這 yourself as a teacher and your classr員女oom.  There will be several 女南opportunities in this worksh下著op to share your ideas ab嗎費out teaching with oth白中er teachers and to develop some她很 new ways of understanding what goes 司就on in your classroom.

 

專家介紹

 Dr Julian Edge, University of Manches土醫ter, UK

Julian Edge began teac少金hing English to speake謝司rs of other languages in Amman, Jordan明喝 in 1969. Since then, he has liv頻朋ed and worked in Germany, Egypt, Sing器近apore, Lebanon, Turkey and Australia,媽在 as well as Britain. H店站e has also made shorter市書 working visits to a large number of 區筆other countries. He has a Diplo愛裡ma in the Teaching of English O線聽verseas from the University of Manchest從低er, an MA in English Language and Edu黃大cation from the University of Lon又知don and a PhD in the fields of 雨錢discourse analysis and language teach國嗎er education from the University of B樂路irmingham. He has published widely,醫玩 mostly in pursuit of h不資is interest in the continu務國ing self-development of te術明achers through reflecti知西ve practice, action res地秒earch and the disciplined use of no報讀n-judgemental discourse內光. In more recent yea空為rs, he has allied these interests with坐件 an increased recognition of河人 the sociocultural, 工在political and ideolo對草gical impact of the teaching of Engl冷年ish worldwide. His key說光note talk will address all of 商紙these issues.

 

Anne Burns, Ph.D.

Dr Anne Burns is Pro月可fessor of TESOL in the School of E劇街ducation at the University of 醫視New South Wales, Sydney, Australia 山物and Professor Emerita答快 in Language Educatio也外n at Aston University, 也知Birmingham, UK. She has publish從山ed approximately 15 books a資煙nd over 100 journal 呢下articles and now works m畫討ainly with doctoral students who ar人金e conducting research on English la司厭nguage teaching and learning民黃. She is an academic advisor to 雜些the Applied Linguistics 知人Series published by Oxf朋我ord University Press and a senior c著亮onsultant to Cengage/National Geogra能訊phic Learning for the on水快line ELTeach course. She enjoy明街s working with teacher林計s all over the world who are intereste他拿d in reflecting on their teaching pract討多ice and using action r黑就esearch in their classroom車讀s to explore issues that厭報 puzzle, challenge and excite them讀鐘 about their teaching.
